“OCD: Not for Dummies”

25th January 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Rather than “OCD for Dummies,” as so many books have been titled, this play on words is useful for both providing knowledge about OCD but also helping the listener to understand that OCD is not about an absence of logic or intellectual understanding. Rather, many sufferers are fully aware of the irrational nature of their obsessions and are often times highly educated, successful individuals who are unable to rid themselves of this type of thinking despite their knowledge.
This presentation is geared for both suffers and supportive friends and family who are trying to further their understanding of the irrational nature of OCD obsessions and compulsions. It will help the listener clear up the confusion that often results from watching your family member get stuck in a cycle of irrational thoughts even though they “know better.” The material presented will also touch on the biological basis of OCD obsessions within the amygdala and the counterproductive results of trying to reassure your loved one when they are seemingly stuck believing their own obsessions. A short Q&A will follow the presentation.
