SUMMARY:"OCD: Not for Dummies"
DESCRIPTION:Rather than “OCD for Dummies\,” as so many books have been titled\, this play on words is useful for both providing knowledge about OCD but also helping the listener to understand that OCD is not about an absence of logic or intellectual understanding. Rather\, many sufferers are fully aware of the irrational nature of their obsessions and are often times highly educated\, successful individuals who are unable to rid themselves of this type of thinking despite their knowledge.\nThis presentation is geared for both suffers and supportive friends and family who are trying to further their understanding of the irrational nature of OCD obsessions and compulsions. It will help the listener clear up the confusion that often results from watching your family member get stuck in a cycle of irrational thoughts even though they “know better.” The material presented will also touch on the biological basis of OCD obsessions within the amygdala and the counterproductive results of trying to reassure your loved one when they are seemingly stuck believing their own obsessions. A short Q&A will follow the presentation. \nDate: Saturday\, January 25\, 2020\nTime: 10:00am to 11:00am\nLocation: The Anxiety Treatment Center of Sacramento\n10419 Old Placerville Road\nSacramento\, CA 95827 \n\n\nRSVP: Dr. Robin Zasio\, Psy.D.\, LCSW at drrobin@atcsac.net or call 916.366.0647×4 \n\n\nDr. Tracy Roulet\, PsyD is a licensed clinical psychologist. She has a B.A in psychology from University of California Santa Barbara\, and a PsyD in clinical psychology from Alliant International University. Dr. Roulet has over 15 years of experience working with different populations in the field of mental health\, 10 of which were spent working at The Anxiety Treatment Center developing a specialization in anxiety disorders. Since 2009 Dr. Roulet has conducted individual\, family and group therapy. She has been a member of OCD Sacramento for over 5 years\, presenting annually on various topics\, volunteering at the 1 million steps for OCD walk\, and attending conferences and workshops to strengthen her knowledge base. She feels passionate about her role as a clinician\, educator and advocate for mental health issues. She currently has a thriving private practice in El Dorado Hills\, is a mother\, wife and active member in her community.

SUMMARY:Taking ACT-ion: Applying the Principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to Enhance OCD Treatment and Recovery
DESCRIPTION:  \nExposure therapy is the gold standard for the treatment of anxiety-related disorders\, such as OCD\, social anxiety\, and phobias. Recently\, therapists have begun using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)\, in conjunction with traditional exposure therapies\, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). ACT’s focus on mindfulness and values can enhance treatment\, and help people build richer and more meaningful lives as part of their recovery. \nPresented by Dmitri Primavera\, ASW\, He earned his Masters Degree in Social Work from California State University\, Sacramento after completing his Bachelors Degree at UC Davis and his Masters in Business Administration at the University of South Carolina. He studied and worked in Japan\, and has collaborated professionally with colleagues in 15 countries. SUMMARY:Beyond the Pews. Connecting the Divide Between the Church and Mental Health Community. Presented by Val Andrews
DESCRIPTION:Mental illness is often times a misunderstood area within the church. Frequently\, those who are suffering are told to “pray about it\,” rather than to seek help from a psychiatrist or therapist. This can invalidate those struggling and distance them from reaching out. This presentation is designed to help attendees learn how to open up a dialogue to those within the church and to increase these arenas to become a safe place to talk about mental illness.
