Trichotillomania: My Personal Recovery and Experience Treating Others

Chanel will discuss her personal experience in her struggles with Trichotillomania and how she was able to  overcome it.  She will discuss the roadblocks in that can come up in treating  trichotillomania that she has experienced both personally as well as observed in others.  She will also outline the front-line treatment modality in working with individuals struggling with Trichotillomania and specific strategies that have been most helpful in individual and group settings.

CHANEL TAGHDIS, AMFT received her master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from California State University, Northridge. Prior to entering the field of counseling, Chanel earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Chanel began her training as a school-based therapist for students and their families at the middle school and high school levels at “Partnerships to Uplift Communities” (PUC). While there, Chanel utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to treat adolescents and groups, primarily treating Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder and Social Anxiety. In addition, Chanel spent two years training at the Maple Counseling Center. She now works at the OCD Center of Los Angeles focusing on CBT, Exposure Response and Prevention (ERP), and mindfulness skills training for adults, adolescents and children struggling with all types of OCD and BFRBs such as Dermatillomania (Skin Picking Disorder) and Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder). Chanel also runs a group at the OCD Center of LA for people with Skin picking and Hair pulling disorder.
